Loretta Jane Smith, 65, of Osakis, passed away on December 13, 2007.  Funeral services for Loretta were held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville with Pastor Ron Calvert officiating.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Jane was born on May 20, 1942 in Lincoln, Minnesota, to Fred and Mabel (Penn) Smith.  She was the youngest of nine children.  Jane was baptized at the Lutheran church in Motley.  When Jane was 31, her parents moved from Lincoln to Staples.  In 1974 Jane started riding the bus to Browerville and attending the Developmental Achievement Center.   She lived with her parents until she was 41 years old when she moved to the REM group home in Osakis.  Jane continued to attend the DAC in Browerville and in October 2002 she became a resident of the Galeon Nursing Home in Osakis where she lived until her death.  She reached the age of 65 years, 6 months and 13 days.

Jane is survived by her brother:  Fred ( Leah) Smith, Jr., of Elk River, sisters:  Donna (Carroll) Miller of Bertha, Shirley Griffith of Motley, half-brother, Lawrence Wellert of Chico, California, 25 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mabel Smith, half-brother, Frank Wellert and sisters:  Bernice Peterson, Jeanette Moore, and Kathryn Martin.
