Lillian May Tonsager, 99 died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa.  Funeral services for Lil were held on Saturday, February 25, 11:00 a.m. at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa with Rev. David Peterson officiating.  Burial was held at Woodman Cemetery.  Casket Bearers were John Jacob, Mark Tonsager, Beth Jacob, Mike Mahlow, Clarice Mahlow and Josh Mahlow.

 

Lillian was born on October 7, 1906 to Arnt & Gusta Moe on the family farm in Iona Township, Todd County, Minnesota.   Lil married Morrie Carlton on July 28, 1928 in Minneapolis. Lil and Morrie moved out to Conrad, Montana and owned/operated a restaurant for 2 years.  After they moved back to Minnesota, they had a gift shop in Henning and then had the Pantry Café (later known as the Dew Drop Inn) in Clarissa.  Lillian married Wilbert Tonsager on March 17, 1961 and they worked Wilbert’s farmed until they retired.  Lillian enjoyed winters in Yuma, AZ and retirement on West Battle Lake; she also enjoyed flowers and loved her constant companions, her dogs.   Lil was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa. 

 

Lillian is survived by her step-children, Roger D. Tonsager and Nita C. Hanson; 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her husbands Morrie Carlton and Wilbert Tonsager, 2 brothers, Art & Bert Moe, foster-daughter Donna Murphy
