Harlan George Freie, 92 of Long Prairie died on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at the V.A. Medical Center in St. Cloud.  Funeral services for Harlan will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie and visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.

Harlan was born May 1, 1919 in Mankato to George & Alma (Guentzel) Freie.  They moved to Round Prairie Township  when Harlan was a young boy.  He graduated from Long Prairie High School.  After high school Harlan attended Dunwoody Institute for auto mechanic.  He then returned home and worked on the farm.   In 1940 Harlan enlisted in the United States Army; he was honorably discharged in 1946.  Harlan married Vivian Engdahl in 1949 in Round Prairie.  After their marriage, Harlan was deployed to Korea and was honorably discharged in 1951.  Harlan worked as a mechanic for Miller Motor and retired from Tom Blais Ford in 1981.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.  Harlan was a member of Trinity  Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, VFW and American Legion in Long Prairie.

Harlan is survived by his sons Loren (Marilyn) Freie, Long Prairie and Byron "Buck" (Donna) Freie, Long Prairie; brother Kenneth Freie, Long Prairie; grandchildren: Lori Ruda, Doug Freie, Greg Freie, Jenni Freie,  and 3 great grandchildren.

Harlan is preceded in death by his parents; wife Vivian and brother Marvin.
