Harland “Hal” Gresser, 71 of Long Prairie died on Friday, October 23 while elk hunting in Ridgeway, Colorado.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, October 30, 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Burial will be at the parish cemetery at a later date.

 

Hal was born May 7, 1938 in Morris, MN to Edwin & Anne (Compain) Gresser.  At age 7, Hal moved to Long Prairie with his parents.  He graduated from the Long Prairie public school in 1956.  Hal attended St. Cloud State University for one year then enrolled in the Molar Barber School in Minneapolis.  Upon returning to Long Prairie, Hal married Kathryn Roman on July 1, 1961 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Browerville and purchased Berg’s Barber Shop later that year.  After his retirement in 1997, the one thing Hal missed the most was the camaraderie that came with his business.  Hal enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing “Texas Hold’em” and is a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and also served on the parish council for several years.  Hal was a member of the American Legion in Long Prairie for 30 years.

 

Hal is survived by his wife Kathryn of Long Prairie, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law, Jeanice (Clarence) Adelman of Sauk Rapids, Mary Jo (George) Santer of Browerville, Ruth (Jim) Ensign of Andover; brothers-in-law Ron (Gerri) Roman of Foley and George Sandy, Jr. of Long Prairie.

 

Hal is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin & Anne, father & mother-in-law Sam & Dolores Roman and sister-in-law Noreen Sandy.
