Gladys Hasser, of Long Prairie, received her final boarding pass, this time to Heaven, on May 1, 2008 at the age of 89. Funeral services for Gladys were held on Monday, May 5, 2008, 11 a.m., at the Peace United Church South in Long Prairie with Pastor Kathy Schuler and Pastor Scott Keehn officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie.
Gladys was born to Frank & Abbie (Jones) Haskin on April 16, 1919 east of Browerville, growing up on the farm with a close family. She was baptized in Peat Lake at the age of 13, instilling in her a lifelong commitment to her Lord and Savior. Gladys graduated from high school in Long Prairie and from Business School in Minneapolis. After working in Minneapolis at the Defense Plant, Gladys married her high school sweetheart, John Hasser, in July 1943. Their life was farming along with hers at the Todd County Highway Department and his as a Long Prairie policeman. After retirement, traveling through the US and Canada and many foreign countries was one of her greatest joys. The Holy Land with her cousin Leland Tyrrell as the guide was one of her best. Gladys’ family was a priority with many memories of special times together. Always learning, volunteering or helping someone kept her busy. Gladys was active in Bible Study, TOPS, Homemakers, 4H Leader, Church Women’s Guild, Long Prairie Nursing Home, Long Prairie Senior Center, Todd County Council on Aging and as a Blandin Foundation Community Leader. Her very special honor was to be named the outstanding Senior for Todd County in 2006. When time permitted, she enjoyed reading, knitting, baking, playing cards and best of all visiting.
Gladys is survived by brother, Wayne Haskin, of Boonville, New York; her children: Marilyn (Don) Tremblay of Pahrump, Nevada; Jean (Richard) Nathe of St. Louis Park; Jack (Una Kay) Hasser of Long Prairie; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and great granddaughter Bailey Coppa.
