George Raymond Boyer, 88, of Long Prairie, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007 at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home.  Funeral services for George were held on Thursday, April 12, 2007, 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Long Prairie with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating.  Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. 

 

George was born on February 28, 1919 in Reynolds Township, Todd County, Minnesota, to Frank and Edith (Pettit) Boyer.  He was raised in Reynolds Township and attended Whiteville Country School through the 8th grade.  After school George worked on the family farm until he joined the Navy on November 14, 1944.  After his discharge, George came back to the family farm area and married Lois Scott on July 17, 1946 in the United Methodist Church in Long Prairie.  In February 1947, George and Lois moved to a farm in Iona Township.  George worked in Montana harvesting beets for several years and worked on a gas pipeline in Monticello.  George went to work for the Todd County Highway Department in 1963 and worked there for 21 years.  George enjoyed playing cards and having mules on the farm along with his team of horses.  George liked to go visit neighbors as well as having company over.  He especially liked to tease his grandchildren.  George was a member of the American Legion Post 12 and the United Methodist Church of Long Prairie.

 

George is survived by his wife Lois of Long Prairie, son Robert of Long Prairie, daughters: Cheryl (Joey) Grau of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Karen Boyer of Sheridan, Wyoming, sisters:  Oliva Christianson, Lillian Wolf, Phyllis Krause, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

 

George is preceded in death by his parents, brothers:  Glen, John, Rudy, Willard, sisters:  Madge and Onabelle, 3 infant brothers and 2 sons Herbert and Raymond.
