David Myers, 83, of Browerville, passed away on July 6, 2007 at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home.  Funeral services for David will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville with Rev. Nate Loer officiating.  Friends may call on Monday, July 9, 2007, 4-8 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be held at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery.

 

David was born on May 25, 1924 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota to Robert and Myrtle (Mathewson) Myers.  After high school, David went into the service from 1943 thru 1945 with the US Army as part of European-African-Middle Eastern Theater – World War II.

When David returned home from the war, he attended two years of college at the Hibbing Jr. College.  On November 27, 1948, David married Dolores Simonson at Elmo Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie.  In 1952, David and Dolores purchased the Browerville Blade.  In 1958 David started working at Hart’s Press and retired in May of 1986.  Followed by 20 plus years of GREAT retirement.  During his retirement David thoroughly enjoyed winters in Arizona and many winters in New Mexico.  David was active in American Legion, and VFW (Commander of Both).  David was a member of the Minnesota Newspaper Association, Boy Scout Leader, active member of the Browerville Fire Department, member of church choir at American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie and the Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville, organist at the Grace Lutheran Church in Browerville and served meals on wheels.  David enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, listening to music, domino’s, fishing, golfing and bowling.  He thoroughly enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. 

 

David is survived by his wife Dolores of Browerville, children:  Tony (Paul) Grotenhuis of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Joseph (Diane) Myers of Browerville, Susan (Fred) Hein of Long Prairie, Samuel (Nancy) Myers of St. Cloud, Jean (Dennis) Kircher of Long Prairie, Daughter-in-law, Mary Myers-Reinarts (Mark) of Hutchinson, 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

 

David is preceded in death by his parents, son Tom, brothers:  Tom, Jack, and Ben, sisters:  Gen, May, Roberta, Beverly and Jewel.
