David Chavez Jones (DJ), 23, of St. Cloud, passed away in a fatal car accident in route from St. Cloud to Browerville.  Memorial services for David will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2006, 6 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville.  Interment was at the Glenwood Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

David was born on May 22, 1983 in Chicago, Illinois.  David soon became like a son and brother to the Krog-Maland family after leaving Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, where he met Jared their freshman year.  David enjoyed being a young and handsome black person in our predominately white community.  As people began to know DJ, we saw a very likeable, warm-hearted, fun guy and not the color of his skin.  DJ lived in an apartment in Minneapolis, but like most grown children do while trying to figure out what they want to do in life, moved home.  DJ decided to go into the Minnesota National Guards.  We were very proud, as he was, of his accomplishments in basic training and AIT.  DJ, Jared, and Raymond were always together, either with friends, Army career, playing football, sharing apartments, traveling or just hanging out. DJ was on his way to visit with us and never made it.  DJ taught us to say “what-up?”  and “hey girl, uh-uh” but most importantly he showed us how to enjoy life day-by-day.  We will miss you DJ, your spirit will be with us always!  With love form your Minnesota family and friends.

David is survived by his “adopted” family, Brian & Cathy Maland of Browerville, Jared, Raymond, Amy, Larry Krog, and Jordan Maland all of Browerville, his National Guard unit, the 135th Infantry and many family and friends in Iowa.
